Blood Money Movie review

Cast: Kunal Kemu, Amrita Puri
Directed by Vishal Mahadkar
Rating: 0.25 *
Two images spring to mind looking at the above photograph: SRK and the movie ‘Titanic’. And while anyone who stretches his arms isn’t SRK, this film has a lot in common with a sinking ship. The title and the promos may suggest a crummy mix of ‘Wall Street’ and ‘Blood Diamond’ but it’s largely a snore fest often interrupted by a jolting background score. So let’s make this review a little less painful and attempt a graphic novel approach. This annoyingly chirpy couple lands up in Cape Town, SA where the husband has nailed a top job with the prestigious Trinity Diamonds. For those can’t tell the husband from the wife in the above picture, Kunal (Kunal Khemu) is the one on the right along with his wife Arzoo (Amrita Puri). The two are densely in love and spend quality time narrating fairy tales to each other (Arzoo actually takes us through the unedited version of Hansel and Gretel!).Now for the ignorant, selling diamonds brings in money and bartering arms for diamonds brings in blood money. That said, Kunal spends little time in getting red-handed and rakes home tuckloads of the second word in the title. Next, a song that markets Cape Town tourism, diamond retailing and the idea that money (bloody or not) can buy happiness, designer clothes and extras to dance along with you and make you look comparatively better at it.A lot of bloody money means very little time for the wife. So in the next 36 scenes, Arzoo feeds Kunal’s dinner to the bin and then naps on the dinner table waiting for him to return. And when he does, he has obviously put his tainted money to ill use and their relationship drifts away.Well, if you’re not going to give up, here’s the rest: Kunal is finally exposed to the dark secrets of the diamond trade and how his bosses fuel terrorism, bomb blasts and anything that is wicked enough to imagine red horns jutting out of their heads. It’s hardly surprising that Kunal’s ethical side which had been snoozing through this film, suddenly surfaces and he tries to make amends. A few bottles of ketchup squirted on the supporting cast ensures a suitable climax.Kunal Khemu and Amrita Puri are ideal in character roles, heroine’s sister or hero’s insipid sidekick. But in the lead, two strugglers can’t make a crippled film walk. While the story and screenplay do little to keep you seated throughout, the dialogues surely deserve a Ghanta nomination. Following a bitter argument, Arzoo’s friend consoles her, saying, “Jhagde toh hote hi hain hone ke liye.” Then there are pearls of wisdom like, “Har deal mein do party hoti hain, ek buyer aur ek seller.” Quite like the two parties in the hall playing ‘Blood Money’: the projectionist and the usher. While the gore quotient was restricted to one scene where a drill pokes into flesh, it was disturbing enough to justify including the word ‘blood’ in the title. The Bhatts have always taken pride in making decidedly B-grade movies but the music in their films have had a longer shelf life than the films itself. Here, it just sounds like re-hashed versions of their previous soundtracks and doesn’t translate into any humming on the way back from the movie. While Kunal Khemu's previous movies have cured constipation, this one can possibly remedy piles. Now you know what the title refers to. (Yahoo movie review)

Bumboo Movie Review

It's just the initial five minutes of the film that makes you think that you might be in a comedy treat. However, as the story progresses, you begin to realize that Bumboo is a yawn inducing pathetic attempt at humour.

A story that mixes two subplots Bumboo is about a scamster Manu Gupta (Sudhir Pandey), who gets arrested for a major scam and promises to uncover the secrets of other 'parties' during his trial. This of course causes a hustle bustle in the city underworld, prompting the entry of an international hitman and sniper Mangal Singh (Sharat Saxena), who is dispatched to get rid of the troublesome Gupta before he reaches court.
On the other hand is Suresh Sudhakar (Kavin Dave), an irritatingly boring news photographer, who gets booked in the same hotel as the hitman to shoot (through his camera, of course) Gupta and the attempts on his life, if any. Su Su (as Sudhakar is known, much to his discomfort) also has plans to reconcile with his wife Pinky (Mandy Takhar), a bimbette who has walked out on Sudhakar to hook up with a shrink in Goa. The hotel also has a staff member Vincent Gomes (Sanjay Mishra), a Goan with a North Indian accent, who seems determined to impose his presence on the two guests Singh and Sudhakar at the slightest opportunity.
When Sudhakar attempts a suicide after Pinky rebuffs his attempts at reconciliation, Singh agrees to look over him in order to prevent a repeat attempt, which might bring the cops nosing in the issue and blow his assassination mission. What follows is a series of misunderstandings, rife with so called humour in the form of digs at homosexuals and mentally affected patients and some old fashioned slapstick, which is really not funny anymore.
Without exception, every actor in the movie either sleepwalks through his role or hams as if his life depends on it. The director probably thought that if toilet humour worked in Delhi Belly, it would work for Bumboo too, but without an impressive script or screenplay, one just ends up wrinkling his nose at the scatological humour. Kavin Dave might be a barrel of laughs in all the television advertisements he appears in, but the actor seriously needs to pull up his socks if he wants to make a mark on the silver screen. Sharat Saxena as the hitman has nothing much to do but growl and frown at everyone in sight. Sanjay Mishra, who has displayed great comic sense in the past, too falls flat on his face and apart from a few reluctant chuckle worthy lines, the humour in the movie is nothing worth writing home about.
In conclusion, beating up yourself with a 'bumboo' is any day a better option that going to watch Bumboo…

It is a well-known fact that Salman Khan is one of the few actors in the industry who doesn't think twice about going out of his way to help his friends in need and once more, the Dabangg Khan has proved that his heart is as big as his biceps.
Sources claim that Ajay Devgn, who has starred alongside Salman in two films viz Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and London Dreams wanted his friend Salman to perfrom a peppy dance number for his film Son Of Sardar and Sallu readily agreed to do so, without charging a single penny for the same!
A source was quoted to have said, "Since Ajay is a good friend of Salman, he called and offered the song to him and knowing their friendship, Salman agreed immediately. In fact, Salman is doing it for free as a goodwill gesture for a friend."
Since the past few years, Devgn and Khan have formed a mutual fan club and Salman also raved about Devgn's impressive physique when the promos of Singham went on air. On his part, Devgn and Sanjay Dutt have done cameos for Salman Khan's Ready at the latter's request.
